I like the world to be balanced and equal, of course it's not. But that's where I come in, to try to make the world, our world, a better place through art. I am delighted at your interest in my work. Please don't hesitate to contact me with ideas, suggestions, or requests, as we all need each other. Even though I'm retired (military) I'd like to think I'm still serving. It's just that now days, I'm serving as an artist and substitute teacher.
-Cheez, at your service
A true art lover and child of the 70's, Van Horn enlisted during a relative time of peace; post-conflict in Southeast Asia/pre-conflict in Southwest Asia. After 20 years of attempting "peace through superior firepower" Cheez gave up and henceforth committed himself to the daunting task of making the world a better place through art.
Upon retiring from the military, he attended Minnesota West Community College in Worthington, MN, and then transferred to St. Cloud State University where he recieved his BS in Art Education. Art and working with young people are his passions and they go together so well. From the wee ones (4 year olds in Head Start) to the seniors in high school, he enjoys teaching them all.
Van Horn has work in private collections at home and abroad, including works on permanent display in public spaces. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and even an award or two in art (after his retirement from active duty).
... And now you know the rest of the story.
